Jonathan Frost fought on the side of the British during the Revolutionary War and was killed near his home on 13 December, 1780. Military records obtained by the author from the Public Record Office in London indicate that at the time of his death, Jonathan Frost held the rank of major in the Fairforest Regiment of Militia. . . .
CHILDREN OF JONATHAN AND MARY (BENSON) FROST:
i. Sarah Frost was born 27 November, 1773, in Newberry District. She died 21 November, 1834, in Williamson County, Tennessee, and was buried on the farm of her brother, John Frost. Her name has been shown in records as Sarah Williams, and it is not known whether she was married to a Williams or whether her mother, Mary (Benson) Frost, may have been married to a man named Williams before Mary married Major Jonathan Frost. Sarah married Moses Lindsey, and they had two daughters, Eliza Lindsey, who married David A Mitchell, their marriage bond being dated 10 December, 1829, and Rebecca Lindsey, who married Elisha F. O'Neal, their marriage bond being dated 19 February, 1835. David A. Mitchell, husband of Eliza Lindsey, married as his second wife Mary Jane Davis, their marriage bond being dated 3 April, 1848. Mary Jane's mother, Sarah (Copeland) Davis, was Eliza Lindsey's first cousin.
ii. John Frost was born 27 January, 1775, in Newberry District. He died 21 June, 1836, and is buried in the cemetery located on his farm. John Frost married Rhoda Miles, born 30 January, 1778, the daughter of Samuel Miles and his wife, Mary Taylor. Rhoda (Miles) Frost died on 13 November, 1865, in Texas while visiting her son, Samuel Miles Frost, in Fort Bend County, Texas. John Frost served as a captain in the War of 1812. The children of John and Rhoda (Miles) Frost were Samuel Miles Frost, who married Mrs. Harriett Hunter Head first and was married to a woman named Virginia second; Jonathan Benson Frost, who married Marinda Knight; Mary Elizabeth Frost, who married John B. Dunn; James Copeland Frost, who married Annie L. Pope; Jane Louise Frost, who married Thomas H. Perkins, Jr.; Sally Rebecca Frost, who married Samuel Taylor; and Dr. Sterling Brown Frost, who married first Martha Pollard and married second Rebecca Goodlett Rains.
iii. Mary Frost was born about 1777 in Newberry District and was married to James Copeland about 1798 or 1799. Mary (Frost) Copeland died 20 March, 1833, in Williamson County, Tennessee.
iv. Rebecca Frost was born 8 June, 1779, in Newberry District. She died 21 September, 1856, in Williamson County, Tennessee. She was married to Deason Knight. Their children were Mary Knight, who married John Milton Little; Nancy A. Knight, who never married; and Rhoda Knight, who married first Hardy Gatlin and second a man named Hampton. Rebecca (Frost) Knight was buried on the farm of her brother, John Frost. . . .
Jonathan Frost was born between 1745 and 1750 in Frederick County, Virginia, and died 13 December, 1780 in South Carolina. He was married to Mary Benson about 1772 in South Carolina.
