[Note by compiler: Information from this source should be viewed with caution, since it contains some errors relating to the MASON-MEASON and allied families.]

Major John Meason . . . , was born in Virginia, February 22, 1753; died in August, 1805. He came to what is now Fayette County with his brother, Colonel Isaac Meason. His will is recorded in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

In this will, he left to his wife Hannah, the dwelling-house and barn, with all cleared lands north of Green Lick Run, during her life-time. Provisions were made for the maintenance and education of his sons, John, Thomas, and George, as well as that of his daughter Frankie. He left 300 acres to his sons Thomas and George. To his children: Isaac, Elizabeth Cheny, Martha Randall, and Hannah, he left one hundred pounds. To son John, twenty pounds: To daughters, Ann Mary and Frankie, he left the residue. His will was signed John Meason, and witnessed by Samuel Guynn, David Hough and Jacob Thompson. Thomas Meason and Isaac Meason, Jr., were Executors.

"John Meason lived in Green Lick and Bullskin Townships." "He was Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, July 1, 1784. Upon the death of John Meason, his family removed from Bullskin Township. Prior to his death, he was a Justice of the Peace in Justice District No. 10, which was the near side of the district. Matthew Gault was Justice near the other side, and Wm. Boyd was Justice near the middle or center. Wm. Boyd also came from Virginia, bringing six slaves. He died in 1812, and was interred near his homestead in Bullskin Township." Inasmuch as the resting place of John Meason is not known, it is very probable that he also was interred near his homestead in Bullskin Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. For his Military Record, see Pennsylvania Archives.

Major John Meason married, in 1770, Hannah Frost, born December 23, 1751, a daughter of William and Hannah Frost, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. William Frost was a son of John Frost, whose will was dated August 25, 1774. A copy of a Warrant of one of John Meason's properties is shown on an adjoining page.
