      (2) Corson, Orville, Three Hundred Years With the Corson Families in America, Burlington, VT: Free Press Interstate Printing Corp., 1939, Vol. I, p. 14:

      PETER CORSEN, the son of Johannes Corssen and Geertruyde Van Tuyle, moved to what is now Lycoming County, Pa., about 1785. Lycoming County at that time was part of Northumberland County. Peter Corsen is said to have been a great hunter and went to Pennsylvania to hunt. He liked the country and removed there. A gun that he used is still in possession of his descendants, now being owned by a great great grandson, Francis Williams, son of Rosa Corson Williams. Peter Corsen is listed in the State Tax Lists of Northumberland County, Muncy Township, for the years 1785, 1786, 1787. (Pa. Arch. Ser. 3, V. 19, pp. 623, 705, 781.) He was recorded in the 1790 Census of Northumberland County with four males under 16, and one female, no doubt his wife. He married Hannah Dutter. They had nine children:

      I. ABRAHAM CORSON, born 1779;

      2. JACOB CORSON, born Mar. 7, 1783;

      3. ISAAC CORSON, married Sara Shipman;

      4. JOHN CORSON, married Elizabeth Buck;

      5. ELIZABETH CORSON, married George Fague;

      6. JANE CORSON, married Henry Buck;

      7. ANN CORSON, married Fred Taylor;

      8. MARY CORSON, married, first, David Woodly, second, Jesse Blaker;

      9. PETER CORSON, married Margaret McCarty.

      CHAPTER L.

      BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES.

      BORORGH OF HUGHSVILLE, AND WOLF (INCLUDING PICTURE ROCKS), SHREWSBURY, AND PENN TOWNSHIPS. . . .

      PETER CORSON migrated from New Jersey to Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, in 1794, and located on a farm, now the present site of Hughesville. He was the father of five sons and four daughters, all of whom grew to maturity and reared families: Elizabeth, who married George Fague; Abraham, who married Jemima Morris; Isaac, who married Sarah Shipman; Jane, who married Henry Buck; Jacob; John, who married Elizabeth Buck; Ann, who married Fred Taylor; Mary, who married David Woodly, and after his death, Jesse Blaker, and Peter, who married Margaret McCarty.

      [Note by compiler: Peter CORSON was on a tax list of Northumberland County, PA as early as 1785, and was listed in census of Northumberland County in 1790. Lycoming County, PA was formed from Northumberland County in 1795. Therefore, it is incorrect to state, as this source does, that Peter migrated from the NJ to Lycoming County in 1794.]

      (4) A household headed by Peter CORSON is listed in the 1790 census of Northumberland County, PA.

      Listed in Peter's household are 1 free white males over 16 years of age; 4 free white males under 16 years of age; and 4 free white females

      Assuming that Peter is 1 of the 4 free white males listed in the 1790 census as then being over 16 years of age, he would have been born sometime before 1774, according to the 1790 census.

      Peter's wife is probably 1 of the 4 free white females listed in his household in the 1790 census.

      Assuming that 1 of Peter's sons was under 16 years of age in 1790, that son would have been born sometime between 1774 and 1790.

      Assuming that 3 of Peter's sons were over 16 years of age in 1790, those sons would have been born sometime before 1774.

      Daughters of Peter were probably 3 of the 4 free white females listed in his household in the 1790 census.

      [Also listed in the 1790 census of Northumberland County, PA are Benjamin CORSON and Christn CORSON. Peter CORSON had a brother named Benjamin.]

      (5) There are at least two entries relating to a Peter CORSON, however spelled, in the 1800 census of Muncy Township, Lycoming County, PA.

      One of these entries appears to relate to a Peter CORSON. [He is listed in the index to the 1800 census as Peter COSSON.] This entry is crossed out, no numbers are listed in the columns opposite his name, and a word which appears to be "End" is written to the left of his name.

      Another one of these entries appears to relate to a Peter COURSEN; however, another word, probably either Sen., Jun. or some variant thereof, is written after his name. [His name is listed in the index to the 1800 census simply as Peter COURSEN.] Listed in this person's household in the 1800 census are 2 free white males under 10 years of age; 3 free white males between 10 and 16 years of age; 3 free white males between 16 and 26 years of age; 1 free white male over 45 years of age; 2 free white females between 10 and 16 years of age; and 1 free white female between 26 and 45 years of age. The eldest male in this household, presumably Peter, was then over 45 years of age, and would have been born sometime before 1755, according to the 1800 census. This male would have then been too old to have been Peter CORSON, Jr., so this entry probably relates to Peter CORSON, Sr.

      Another entry in the 1800 census appears to relate to a Peter COURTER. [His name is so listed in the index to the 1800 census.] He is listed in the second line after Peter COURSEN in the 1800 census.

      (6) A household headed by Peter CORSON is listed in the 1810 census of Shrewsbury Township, Lycoming County, PA.

      Listed in Peter's household are 1 free white male between 10 and 16 years of age; 1 free white male between 16 and 26 years of age; 2 free white males between 26 and 45 years of age; 1 free white male over 45 years of age; 1 free white female between 10 and 16 years of age; 2 free white females between 16 and 26 years of age; and 1 free white female over 45 years of age.

      Assuming that Peter is the free white male listed in the 1810 census as then being over 45 years of age, he would have been born sometime before 1765, according to the 1810 census.

      Assuming that Peter's wife is the free white female listed in the 1810 census as then being over 45 years of age, she would have been born sometime before 1765, according to the 1810 census.

      Assuming that 1 of Peter's sons was between 10 and 16 years of age in 1810, that son would have been born sometime between 1794 and 1800.

      Assuming that 1 of Peter's sons was between 16 and 26 years of age in 1810, that son would have been born sometime between 1784 and 1794.

      Assuming that 1 of Peter's sons was between 16 and 26 years of age in 1810, that son would have been born sometime between 1784 and 1794.

      Assuming that 2 of Peter's sons were between 26 and 45 years of age in 1810, those sons would have been born sometime between 1765 and 1784.

      Assuming that 1 of Peter's daughters was between 10 and 16 years of age in 1810, that daughter would have been born sometime between 1794 and 1800.

      Assuming that 2 of Peter's daughters were between 16 and 26 years of age in 1810, those daughters would have been born sometime between 1784 and 1794.

      (7) A household headed by Peter CORSON is listed in the 1820 census of Muncy Township, Lycoming County, PA.

      Listed in Peter's household are 1 free white male over 45 years of age; and 1 free white female over 45 years of age.

      Since only one male is listed in Peter's household in the 1820 census, he must be the free white male listed in the 1820 census as then being over 45 years of age. He was born sometime before 1775, according to the 1820 census.

      Assuming that Peter's wife is the free white female listed in the 1820 census as then being over 45 years of age, she would have been born sometime before 1775, according to the 1810 census.
