- (1) Porter, Harold F., Jr., "The Strutt Ancestry of Thomasine Frost Wife of Edmund Rice of Sudbury, Mass.," The American Genealogist, Vol. 61, No. 1 (January 1986), p. 163:
JOHN STRUTT . . . was buried at Glemsford, co. Suffolk, 22 April 1591. He appears on the 1568 subsidy list for Suffolk under "Glemsfoorde" as taxed on £5 in lands and paying 6s 8p. He was twice married. His first wife, CATHERINE _____, was buried at Glemsford 18 Aug. 1578 and he married there (2) 21 Oct. 1578 JULIAN SCOTT, daughter of Richard Scott of Fynstead in the parish of Glemsford, yeoman (Glemsford Parish Recs.). The will of Richard Scott, dated 13 Feb. 1577[/8], names Julyan Scott (but the codicil, 11 May 1584, does not mention her) and two of her brothers, Richard and George Scott, who are named in her husband's will. George Scott was one of the witnesses to the codicil (Archdeaconry of Sudbury, Frende 155). Julian (Scott) Strutt married (2) Glemsford 10 June 1591 widower Ambrose Biggs; their daughter Margery was baptized 19 March 1591[/2] and buried 7 July 1593. Ambrose Biggs almost certainly is the Ambrose Sr. who, with Ambrose Jr., figures among the witnesses to Edward Frost's will 26 July 1616.
Abstract of the will of John Strutt of Glensforde, co. Suffolk, yeoman, dated 16 April 1591 and proved in the Archdeaconry Court of Sudbury 12 May 1591: to the poor of Glensforde; to wife Juliane all houses and lands until my daughter Anne Strutte is 18, and "at Michellmas followinge" they to be partitioned, with wife having half for life; if Anne dies without issue, houses and lands go to my nephew [grandchild] Thomas Belgrave, he paying 20 nobles each to his brothers and sisters, the children of my late daughter Jobane Belgrave deceased; to my sister Ursula Brester 10s; to John Goldinge and his son George Goldinge land in Greate Wylwyn; to Richard Sootte 6s 3d and to each child of Eustace Strutte 10s; my wife and daughter Anne Strutte to be my executors; my brother George Scott supervisor of the will. Witnesses: William Biggs clerk, Thomas Gardiner, Ambrose Biggs, Thomas Gardner the younger, Richards Symonds and others. On 20 April John Strutt surrendered land bequeathed to John Brester the older, mentioning land "sometyme in the tenure of Thomas Strutt father of the sayde John Strutt" (Archdeaconry of Sudbury, Bacon 24).
