      Jane CARR was born ABT 1778 in VA, and died 1856. She was the daughter of James CARR and Ann (EWING) _____.

      The parentage of Jane can't be proved positively; however there is a large amount of evidence that suggests that Jane's parents were James and Ann Carr.

      The DAR Application (#120918) of Mary Latham Norton was filed in the belief that Samuel Carr was the father of Jane Carr. This belief was based only on the fact that Samuel Carr was not assessed for poll tax in 1808 in Rhea Co. as he was over 50 yrs of age. Virkus in the "Compendium of American Genealogy" also gives the parents of Jane Carr as Samuel and Ann Carr; however the lineage is the same as that of Mary Latham Norton and probably came from the DAR application of her mother Maude Witt Latham.

      Henry Airheart, who married Jane about 1800, first appears in Blount County, TN records in 1799 when he served on a jury and he remained in Blount County until 1807 when he and James Carr jointly sold property on the Tennessee River.

      James Carr first appears in Blount County records in 1795 when he served on a jury. Samuel Carr is first in Blount County records in 1797 when he also served on a jury. Jane Carr was also in Blount County in 1796 when she had a child out of wedlock. "On motion of Thomas Gray attorney for Jane Kerr upon her petition being filed praying for the Maintainance of a Child from James Ewing the reputed father of the said Child - Ordered that the said petition be registered." (Wednesday morning the 14th of June 1796, Blount Co. TN Court Record, Vol 1, Sep 1795-May 1804, p. 28).

      Later in Rhea County, where the Carrs and Airhearts had moved about 1808 there was a relinquishment from Ann Carr to Henry Airheart of her right of Administration on the Estate of her late husband, James Carr (deceased). There was also a bond between Samuel Carr and Henry Airheart.

      Also it should be noted that Jane named her second son, James and her second daughter, Ann, and she didn't name any son Samuel.

      All the evidence presented above points to James and Ann Carr as the parents of Jane.

      What is the relationship of Samuel Carr to Jane? Samuel Carr is not listed in Blount County records until 1797. He is listed on the following tax lists: Blount Co. TN 1801, Rhea Co. TN 1819

      Samuel was married to Sally Blythe in 1810 in Rhea County and Henry Airheart was bondsman.

      When Samuel first appeared in Blount County records in 1797 serving on a jury, he would have had to had been at least 21 and born by 1776 and because he paid taxes in 1819, he was under 50 years of age at that time or born after 1770. This is too late to be the father of Jane who was born about 1778 according to the 1850 census (Jane's age was 71 yrs). So that this Samuel is probably a brother of Jane.

      According to 1860 and 1870 census data of several of the Airheart children (Henry and Daniel) their mother was born in VA. James Carr appears in Washington County, Tennessee court records for 1780-1782. (Washington County, TN Court Records, FHL Microfilm #825510) According to Penelope Johnson Allen, the extension of the western boundary line between North Carolina and Virgina (to form Washington County, Tennessee), in 1780, threw a large settlement that had hitherto considered itself to be on Virginia soil, into a second new county named for General Sullivan. Thus when Jane was born in 1778/9, she could have been in VA and a year later in Sullivan County, TN without her parents having moved.

      Jane had either three sets of twins or 2 sets of twins and 1 set of triplets. Ann and Catherine were twins and Daniel and Nicholas were twins. John M. and Henry R. were either twins or a set of triplets if Michael was born in 1815, which later census reports seem to indicate.
